Airtel Makes Facebook Browsing Free For 2 Months

Leading telecom operator Bharti Airtel has made access to online social networking site Facebook free for its over 130 million subscribers. For the first time, Airtel customers who are Facebook users will be able to post status updates, comment and write on walls, message others, and also be able to view or upload photos without any data charges. Facebook’s mobile site will be initially available in English and Hindi, with five other languages – Punjabi, Bengali, Telugu, Tamil, and Malayalam –soon to follow by July 15, 2010. The catch however is that the service is being offered for a two months period.

In a blog post made in early May Facebook had announced that its stripped down version o.facebook.com will be available to mobile customers of over 50 mobile carriers (across the world) without incurring any data charges.
In a first of its kind move by the company, it wants subscribers to get hooked on to full Facebook mobile experience and hence through airtel one will be able to access m.facebook.com for free. Airtel expects that after using it for couple of months, majority of subscribers would continue with it even with data charges.

How to access Facebook on Airtel:
• SMS ‘FACEBOOK’ to 54321
• Feed your email address and password
• Connect and share with your friends on the move – with no data cost on m.facebook.com until August 31st, 2010
