Beware Of Computer Virus Phone Call From Microsoft

computer_phone_viruslLooks like India is becoming famous for wrong reasons lately. First, India was listed as the spamming hub and now for running a phone call scam about computer viruses.

According to the Guardian, the scam is running quietly since 2008 from call centres based in Kolkata. The scam starts this way: the phone rings at someone's home, and the caller – usually with an Indian accent – asks for the householder, quoting their name and address before saying "I'm calling for Microsoft. We've had a report from your internet service provider of serious virus problems from your computer."

Google Sees Bright Future In India

Google has tied up with Tata Consultancy Services to provide web based business solutions to enterprise industry. It aims to make available business tools such as email, instant messaging, calendar functionality and video and office presentations over the internet using the Google Apps software suite. Google had earlier tried to partner with Airtel but that fell through.

Microsoft is way ahead of Google when it comes to enterprise solutions. Google has effectively challenged Microsoft in the consumer space, but has not made a major impact on Microsoft’s forte. Right now, enterprise does not form a substantial portion of Google’s revenue, but this is touted to change. With enterprise being the fastest growing segment for Google, they can’t ignore it any more.

In cloud computing, Google is planning to integrate its enterprise tools on the cloud computing platform to effectively cater to the needs of the enterprise industry. Back home, the Bangalore and Hyderabad centres, with around 300 engineers are concentrating solely on this, building India as a centre of excellence.

Google plans to have a major role in this. Google is targeting the public cloud with other companies like Amazon and Salesforce giving it competition. On the other hand, companies like Microsoft and IBM are concentrating on the private cloud. Private cloud is where corporate companies use an internal server to host applications that can be accessed only by them. On the other hand, public cloud refers to servers hosted by say, Google, and all the applications hosted on them. Google says that private cloud is not true cloud computing and that its public cloud has enough security features.

It hopes India spells success in this regard. We will be seeing a lot of Google in India soon.
